Travel to the west from the central area of Wajima City. You will see an area surrounded by bamboo fences to protect the houses from strong winds from the sea. In the Monzen area, there is Zen museum where you can learn about the history of Zen Buddhism. In the central area of Wajima, visit craftsmen’s studios and the Wajima Urushi Art Museum to enjoy the beauty and techniques of Wajima lacquerware.

Stroll around the city area of Wajima

Enjoy shopping in the bustling atmosphere of the morning market, and visit the museum to learn about the techniques of Wajima lacquerware, a celebrated traditional craft of Ishikawa Prefecture.

This morning market has a history of over 1,000 years. Fresh vegetables, seafood and delicacies are for sale. Enjoy shopping while negotiating prices with the vendors.

“Dandara” is a word game in the form of a poem that has been played by lacquer craftsmen in Wajima since the olden days. Poems are exhibited on the banners of the street lights from the roadside station to the morning market street.
